This fall we have been very busy preparing for our 4th winter of MK Blanket Wraps! Kate and I have recently grown our nonprofit and are actively finding and working with groups to help us create and sew Blanket Wraps. Our sewing “partners” include 2 Shrine Grade School students, the Wyandotte Quilting Group, Mrs. Feldkamp, Our Nana, and we will be teaching a group of ladies involved with the Girlpreneur Expo we attend every year. It is exciting to have people of all ages wanting to help us sew Blanket Wraps because the more we can make, the more people we can help stay warm! We are always looking for new shelters to hand out our Blanket Wraps. If you know of a shelter that will allow us to roll in our racks and let people pick out a Blanket Wrap, please contact us.

Kate and I are also very excited to announce that we will be teaching our FIRST Christmas Sewing Workshop at DRMM Genesis House this December! We have so many new project ideas to bring to the shelter, so be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram for posts to see everything our students will make. Since it will be near Christmas, we are bringing in wrapping paper and encouraging everyone to make gifts for friends and family. The two Shrine girls that are helping us sew blanket wraps will also be joining us for the first time to teach a kids’ craft! Additionally, we are looking forward to teaching a group of women how to sew Blanket Wraps at a local shelter for victims of human trafficking in February. More to come on that.

As for handing out Blanket Wraps this winter, we already have shelters and events lined up to hand out at! Our first drop will be at the Ark Association Lunch on November 23. On Thanksgiving morning we will continue our family tradition of driving around Detroit handing out to people still on the streets and then we will be heading to the Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue 6th Annual Thanksgiving for the Community to hand out Blanket Wraps there. It is a busy Thanksgiving but we are so grateful to be out helping others! For the rest of the winter, our goal is to DOUBLE the number of Blanket Wraps we handed out last year.

Lastly, Kate and I were very honored to receive an award and recognition this fall. We were invited to the DRMM Program Graduation and Volunteer Recognition Dinner and were named a 2019 Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Youth Volunteer Spotlight Recipient for our continued work with the women and children at the Genesis House. Furthermore, we received the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce Youth Achievement Award for our work helping the community through MK Blanket Wraps and Royal Oak Middle School. At both occasions, we were lucky to meet and learn from other people doing amazing things in our community!

We have so much we want to accomplish this winter that all donations are greatly appreciated! Please consider helping us reach our goals by donating by CLICKING HERE. Also, we will be updating Facebook and Instagram, so please follow us!
